Deputy Eric Threlkeld, alongside Deputy Jared Rostro, was implicated in a wrongful arrest case in 2017 involving Jason Sanchez. The deputies investigated and prosecuted Sanchez for aggravated stalking and violating a restraining order during a child custody dispute. Sanchez was convicted in 2020 and sentenced to approximately 18 months in jail. In December 2022, the convictions were overturned due to insufficient evidence, prompting Sanchez to file a lawsuit against Eddy County, Sheriff Mark Cage, and the deputies for malicious prosecution, unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, and negligent hiring and training. The lawsuit remains active as of April 2023.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
