In December 2012, Officer Schamber was involuntarily committed to a mental health facility for 10 days after colleagues reported concerns about his mental health and potential danger to the community. He filed a lawsuit against Los Alamos County, alleging he was handcuffed, drugged, and held against his will. The county settled the lawsuit for $600,000 in 2013.
