In October 2000, Sheriff’s Officer Robin LaRosa filed a lawsuit against the County of Sussex, Sheriff Robert E. Untig, and Sgt. Michael Franek, alleging acts of sexual harassment. The complaint stated that LaRosa was referred to using derogatory terms and experienced inappropriate comments about homosexuality and lesbianism. Additionally, it was alleged that superiors stated only male employees were suited for certain law enforcement tasks. A previous sexual harassment lawsuit was settled for $90,000 in September 2000, involving allegations that officers used courtroom security cameras to zoom in on women’s genitals.
