Undersheriff Christopher Bourke – Orleans County Sheriff’s Office

On June 20, 2017, Undersheriff Christopher Bourke used force to arrest a civilian, Kenneth Long, inside the Public Safety Building. Surveillance footage showed Bourke grabbing Long’s arms and taking him to the ground without clear provocation. Long filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force and violation of his constitutional rights. The court found no evidence that Bourke acted pursuant to an ‘officer safety notice’ and dismissed the municipal liability claim.
