In March 2010, Deputy Cavanaugh was placed on paid administrative leave after making a threatening remark about his superior, stating ‘I could kill the boss.’ This comment was made in the presence of colleagues, causing concern due to his armed status. Following an internal investigation and a Loudermill hearing, Cavanaugh’s employment was terminated on March 26, 2010, for conduct deemed of a serious nature that made continued employment impossible.
