In 2013, then-Undersheriff Patrick Russo made a racial slur towards Lt. James Karam, a Lebanese-American, stating he ‘should shave his goatee or he would be put back on the terrorist watch list.’ This remark was part of a federal discrimination lawsuit that resulted in a $300,000 settlement in 2016.
