In January 2020, Sgt. Curtis Sowder was arrested and charged with simple assault, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment following a domestic violence incident involving his wife. He allegedly body-slammed her and dragged her onto the front porch. The Sheriff’s Office terminated his employment after reviewing the case. In a non-jury trial, Sowder was found not guilty of all charges.
