In 2015, Sheriff Gary D. Brownfield was implicated in a lawsuit filed by Warden Brian S. Miller, alleging political retaliation and conspiracy. The lawsuit claimed that Brownfield, along with other county officials, suspended Miller without pay for three days in January 2015, purportedly due to Miller’s support for building a new prison facility, which Brownfield opposed. The suspension was later reversed, and Miller’s pay was restored. The case highlighted internal conflicts and alleged misuse of authority within the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
