On September 27, 2007, Deputy Michael Patterson was present during the decontamination process of Deputies Jane Doe and Brian Szumski after a flea infestation. Patterson, along with other deputies, was in the vehicle when Doe and Szumski were transported back to the sheriff’s office. Doe filed a lawsuit alleging invasion of privacy and emotional distress. The court found that Patterson’s involvement did not constitute a constitutional violation but acknowledged the unprofessional conduct during the incident.
