On August 11, 2024, Sergeant Christopher Meyer was involved in the arrest of Cory Samek outside a gas station on Palm Beach Boulevard. Samek was charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, and disorderly intoxication. His booking photo showed significant facial injuries. An internal investigation concluded that Meyer used improper force during the arrest, leading to his termination in October 2024. Two other deputies were also fired, and four others were disciplined for failing to report the incident properly. Samek filed a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force and civil rights violations against Meyer and Sheriff Carmine Marceno. The lawsuit claims the sheriff’s policies encourage violent force against suspects.
