In February 2022, Deputy Mike Crawford deployed a Taser on Jean Barreto at a gas station, igniting gasoline and causing Barreto to suffer third-degree burns over 75% of his body. Crawford was charged with negligence but was acquitted in November 2022. A federal lawsuit was filed against Crawford and other deputies, alleging excessive force and seeking damages for Barreto’s severe injuries.
