    In March 2015, Deputy Martin was involved in an incident where he body-slammed Michael Basile during booking at the Sarasota County Jail, resulting in Basile sustaining traumatic injuries to his face and jaw. An Internal Affairs investigation concluded that Martin used excessive force, leading to a brief suspension. Basile filed a lawsuit against Martin and the Sheriff’s Office, alleging permanent injuries from the incident.
