In 2013, Lieutenant Lamar Heath Jones was terminated from the Heflin Police Department for conduct unbecoming of an officer and violating the Law Enforcement Code of Conduct. The termination was due to his cohabitation with a convicted felon, which was deemed a violation of department policy. Jones contested the termination, alleging retaliation for his support of a fellow officer’s discrimination lawsuit, but the court upheld the termination, finding no sufficient evidence of retaliation.
