In June 2022, Cpl. Salum used a Taser on a handcuffed man, Perry Jackson, at close range. Jackson was compliant at the time. The incident led to public outcry and a request for an external investigation. Additionally, in May 2022, Salum was involved in an incident where a man named Toney Brown alleged that Salum and other officers beat him over the head with batons after a brief foot chase, resulting in hospitalization and multiple staples in his head. The mayor called for Salum’s immediate termination following these incidents.
