In July 2019, off-duty Officer Bartlett rear-ended a vehicle on North Douglas Highway while driving under the influence, resulting in injuries to the other driver. Bartlett’s blood alcohol content was 0.239, approximately three times the legal limit. He pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence and assault. A lawsuit was filed against the City and Borough of Juneau and the Juneau Police Department, alleging negligent hiring, training, and supervision of Bartlett.
