On August 27, 2017, multiple officers unlawfully arrested Alex Caceda, a Peruvian immigrant, at the request of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Caceda, who had intervened to defend a bartender from an assault, was himself assaulted and then detained by Palmer police for four days without charges. The ACLU filed a lawsuit against the Palmer Police Department, resulting in a $50,000 settlement, a written apology, and policy changes to prevent similar incidents in the future.
