Captain Cornell Montgomery, a direct superior officer within the Lafayette Police Department, was implicated in a 2012 case where he allegedly violated department policies by notifying Officer Brown of a complaint filed against him by Officer Broussard, thereby identifying her as the complainant. This action led to Brown lodging a counter-complaint against Broussard. Additionally, Montgomery was accused of delaying the delivery of a reprimand letter to Broussard and ordering her transfer from a daytime to a nighttime shift, which she perceived as a demotion. The court concluded that these allegations were sufficient to state a cause of action against Montgomery in his individual capacity under § 1983.
