Between December 2022 and February 2023, Operations Bureau Chief Karl Woolridge was accused of retaliating against deputies who reported issues with the department’s payroll processing system. Deputies claimed that Woolridge removed their ability to perform on-call work and reassigned them to less desirable shifts after they raised concerns about mishandled on-call and overtime pay. Eight officers filed a claim against Pima County, alleging violations of Arizona’s overtime and minimum wage laws and retaliation by Woolridge.
