In May 2024, Trooper Jason Woodruff, a 16-year veteran and K9 officer in Soldotna, used excessive force during the arrest of a man mistaken for a suspect with an active warrant. Woodruff deployed his K9, allowing it to bite the man for over a minute as he attempted to comply with commands, resulting in severe injuries. Initially charged with misdemeanor assault, he was later indicted on felony first-degree assault charges in October 2024. The victim required hospitalization and surgeries due to the injuries sustained.
