In October 2020, Officer Connor Lawrence, alongside Officer Brandon Lundgren, detained a 14-year-old Black boy outside a movie theater, using derogatory language and handcuffing the boy without clear justification. The city settled the resulting lawsuit for $48,000. Lawrence was required to attend additional training on resilience, compassion, and leadership for law enforcement, as well as participate in a community engagement project involving South Sacramento youth.
