In 2022, Officer Joel Belgard conducted an improper public strip search of Ronnie Reed, violating department policy and Florida law. Belgard and another officer forcibly pulled down Reed’s pants on a public street during a drug search, exposing him to bystanders. The search yielded no drugs, and the charges against Reed were eventually dropped. Belgard received formal counseling for his actions.
