Officer Curt Suskevich was terminated on January 6, 2009, after an internal investigation into an incident in Key West involving him and his wife. They were charged with possession of marijuana after his wife fired Suskevich’s handgun inside their vacation home. Suskevich claimed he was unaware of the marijuana, but the department determined he was aware of his wife’s drug use and did nothing to stop it. He was reinstated on January 9, 2010, after an independent arbitrator found a lesser penalty was warranted, subject to a two-year ‘last chance agreement’ with conditions including random drug testing.
