In June 2020, Deputy Phillip Donaldson of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office falsified a report regarding the origin of two firearms. He claimed an elderly woman handed him the guns, stating she found them in the bushes outside her home. In reality, the firearms were given to him by Deputy Brian Calkins of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, who had obtained them from a cousin. Donaldson resigned the day after filing the false report and was charged with falsifying a report, a misdemeanor.
