In November 2023, former officer Aaron Goodwin, along with his brother and sister-in-law, was involved in a racially motivated assault against Mamadou Dembele, a Black bank executive, outside a diner. Goodwin pleaded guilty to misdemeanor simple assault and received a suspended sentence. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office filed a civil rights complaint against him, seeking financial penalties and restraining orders. Dembele also filed a federal lawsuit alleging negligence, battery, and assault, citing injuries including a concussion and a torn Achilles tendon. Previously, in 2015, Goodwin was terminated from the department for breaching the code of ethics by accepting a $2.7 million inheritance from an elderly woman with dementia.
