In May 2017, Officer Huot was captured on body camera footage dragging a handcuffed man through a hallway, causing the man’s head to hit a steel door frame. The incident led to his termination for using excessive force and failing to report the use of force. However, an arbitrator later ruled that the termination was excessive, reinstating Huot without back pay. The city contested this decision, but the Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld the arbitrator’s ruling.
