Luigi Mangione’s legal team alleges that Pennsylvania police unlawfully collected his DNA by providing him with food and soda during his detention following an arrest at a McDonald’s on December 9th. They contend that the arrest lacked probable cause, as officers did not read Mangione his rights nor inform him he was a suspect for at least 20 minutes. The DNA was obtained from items Mangione consumed, which his lawyers argue is illegal under the circumstances of his arrest. Additionally, they seek to exclude evidence found in his backpack, such as a ghost gun and fake IDs, from trial and aim to have the charges in Pennsylvania dismissed. Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan on December 4th and faces multiple state and federal charges in New York and Pennsylvania, to which he has pleaded not guilty. His defense fund has amassed nearly $740,000, supported by followers critical of the American healthcare system. The Blair County District Attorney’s Office has yet to comment on the case. nypost.com
