Anthony Briscoe Mason – Aiken Department of Public Safety

On January 3, 2023, Officer Mason responded to a traffic collision at Two Notch Road and East Pine Log Road. During the incident, he detected the odor of marijuana and informed the driver of his intent to search the vehicle. The driver refused and attempted to flee on foot. Mason pursued and, upon apprehending the individual, struck him on the head. This use of excessive force led to Mason’s termination on January 9, 2023. Subsequently, on December 27, 2023, Mason was charged with third-degree assault and battery by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
