Written by On July 20, 2020, Officer Bailey Gannon responded to a call about a man with a gun. Without announcing his presence or attempting de-escalation, Gannon opened a bathroom door and, upon seeing the armed individual, retreated and fired his weapon indiscriminately while fleeing, accidentally shooting his partner, Officer Jennifer Kilnapp, in the arm. Kilnapp suffered severe injuries, including nerve damage and PTSD. Gannon was not disciplined for the incident, and Kilnapp later filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force and inadequate training. The city and police officials were also accused of misrepresenting the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
