Officer Karpin was also involved in the fatal shooting of Brandon Roberts on January 5, 2020. Similar to Officer Golding, Officer Karpin faced allegations in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Roberts’ family, accusing him of using unreasonable deadly force and violating Roberts’ rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act. In August 2020, the state attorney general’s office cleared Officer Karpin of criminal wrongdoing, stating the use of deadly force was justified. As of February 2022, Officer Karpin had left the department in good standing.
