Bruce Barney – Franklin County Sheriff’s Office

In August 2023, a lawsuit accused Undersheriff Bruce Barney of raping an inmate during a 1999 transport. The lawsuit, filed under the Adult Survivors Act, alleges that Barney sexually assaulted the inmate in the back of a transport vehicle. Sheriff Jay Cook terminated Barney on November 13, 2023, stating it was best to ‘part ways’ due to the pending lawsuit. Barney denies the allegations, and the lawsuit is ongoing as of March 2024.
