Casey Davies – Cottonwood Heights Police Department

In 2015, Officer Davies received a four-hour suspension for using a ‘pit maneuver’ during a pursuit, violating department policy by not properly weighing the seriousness of the offense against potential dangers to the public. In 2017, he was given a verbal warning for using closed-hand blows and impact weapon strikes on a resisting suspect without activating his body camera as required by Utah law. In 2018, Davies was involved in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Zane James. Initially deemed justified, the case was reopened in 2022 after new information emerged, including allegations that Davies used his patrol car to hit James, and discrepancies regarding his body camera usage. A civil lawsuit filed by James’ family alleges wrongful death and a cover-up by the department.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

  • Make threats of any kind
  • Share private information such as personal emails, home addresses, or phone numbers

Violation of these rules will result in immediate content removal and possible account suspension.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
