In June 2017, Investigator Chad Webster Phillips rear-ended a vehicle while driving, causing severe back injuries to the occupants. Phillips had dropped his radio microphone and failed to notice the stopped car ahead. This incident was not isolated; records indicate Phillips had previously dropped his microphone while driving. The victims were awarded over $2.2 million in damages by an Orange County jury.
