Christian Dedmon, a Rankin County deputy, faced numerous misconduct allegations over the last decade but received little to no discipline. In December 2018, a suspect accused Dedmon of an unlawful arrest with fabricated charges (the lawsuit was later dismissed). Dedmon also took part in a 2019 operation where deputies shot and killed a man during a standoff, and in an April 2022 incident he opened fire on a fleeing suspect who ultimately took his own life. He even assaulted a handcuffed man in December 2022, firing a gun near the victim’s head to coerce a confession, while fellow deputies failed to intervene. Dedmon stayed employed until 2023, when he was arrested and convicted in a high-profile civil rights case.
