Former custody deputy Christopher Johnson was indicted in 2014 for assaulting inmate Charles Owens in 2013. Johnson and another deputy allegedly used excessive force, including tight handcuffing and physical assault, resulting in injuries to Owens. Johnson was fired after an internal investigation and faced both federal charges and a civil lawsuit filed by Owens.
