Commander Matthew Lackner – Pittsburgh Bureau of Police

In October 2023, a body-worn camera was found hidden in an unmarked Pittsburgh Bureau of Police vehicle, leading to an investigation that uncovered multiple concealed recordings of several officers without their knowledge. Commander Lackner was accused of placing the cameras inside the vehicles and hiding his department-issued body camera to illegally record interactions with other officers. He faced four felony counts of using body cameras to record fellow officers. In 2024, Lackner agreed to two years of probation; upon successful completion, the felony counts will be expunged.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
