Commander Randy Foster – Los Alamos County Police Department

In January 2014, Commander Foster, along with two other officers, filed a whistleblower lawsuit against Los Alamos County, claiming they faced retaliation after reporting concerns about a fellow officer’s mental health. The lawsuit alleged wrongful termination and mistreatment. The county settled the case in February 2016 for $2 million and offered reinstatement to the officers, which they declined.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
