Dakota Midkiff – Mantua Police Department

In October 2024, Police Chief Dakota Midkiff was placed on paid administrative leave after a video surfaced showing him arresting 76-year-old Rick Schulze, a retired state wildlife officer. The video depicted Midkiff taking Schulze to the ground, resulting in visible injuries to Schulze’s face. The incident occurred during a response to a family dispute involving Schulze’s daughter. Midkiff ordered Schulze to leave the scene; when Schulze allegedly refused, Midkiff arrested him. Schulze was booked on suspicion of interfering with a peace officer but had not been charged at the time. Midkiff returned to duty after the Mantua Town Council voted unanimously to reinstate him, contingent upon completing at least 40 hours of remedial training.
