In 2009, Lieutenant Dan Dixon was investigated for allegedly falsifying timekeeping records and manipulating a subordinate officer’s schedule. After a six-month internal investigation, he was demoted to patrol officer. Dixon did not return to work, leading to his termination. He filed a lawsuit against the City of Coeur d’Alene, claiming wrongful termination. In 2011, a jury awarded Dixon and his wife over $3 million in damages. The verdict was upheld by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2013.
