Dana Elmore – Reform Police Department

In December 2024, Officer Dana Elmore was recorded using a Taser on a handcuffed individual, Micah Washington, during an arrest. The incident occurred while Washington was changing a tire near his aunt’s house. Elmore approached Washington and, after a brief exchange, used the Taser on him multiple times, including while he was handcuffed and compliant. The encounter was captured on video by Washington’s 16-year-old brother and widely circulated online. Following the incident, Washington filed a $20 million federal civil rights lawsuit against Elmore, her husband (former Pickens County Sheriff’s Deputy Jody Elmore), and the city of Reform, alleging excessive force, deliberate indifference, malicious prosecution, and wrongful detainment. The lawsuit also claims that false criminal charges were filed against Washington as a result of the incident. Elmore was placed on unpaid leave pending an investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The NAACP and Washington’s attorney have called for criminal charges to be filed against Elmore for her actions during the arrest.
