Springfield police officer Daniel Cintron was fired in 2018 after being charged with multiple counts of child rape and sexual abuse. In a 2019 trial he was acquitted of the most serious rape charges, but in 2021 he was convicted of two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and two counts of witness intimidation. He was sentenced to up to three years in state prison on those convictions, and he still faces a separate pending case related to an altercation with a teenager in 2017.
