Sergeant Elzey was involved in an incident where a 13-year-old boy was kept in a cold environment to coerce a confession. Despite awareness of the incident, police commanders awarded Elzey ‘Supervisor of the Year’ in April 2018. He was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation, which was on hold while the district attorney explored potential criminal charges.
