In 2022, Sheriff David Beth authorized over $21,000 in stipends for detention facility support staff without proper county approval. An investigation by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office found insufficient evidence for criminal wrongdoing, but an independent counsel concluded that Beth misused or misappropriated funds by not consulting appropriate county department heads. Beth did not face criminal charges but was found to have acted beyond his authority.
