Deputy Adam Durflinger – Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office

In June 2013, Deputy Durflinger was involved in the fatal shooting of Alexander L. Mandarino near Lookout Pass. Durflinger and Idaho State Police Trooper Todd McDevitt questioned Mandarino for nearly 40 minutes regarding mismatched license plates. When Mandarino retrieved a small pill bottle from the glove box, McDevitt saw a pistol and shot Mandarino. Mandarino’s parents filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force, claiming their son was cooperative and that deadly force was unnecessary. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office investigated and deemed the use of force justified. The lawsuit was filed in July 2014 and, as of September 2016, a trial date was set for November 1, 2016.
