Deputy Benjamin Jacquot – Laramie County Sheriff’s Office

In February 2022, Deputy Jacquot, serving as a school resource officer at Freedom Elementary School, forcibly restrained an 8-year-old boy with a neurodivergent disability. The incident involved Jacquot wrestling the child into a conference room, repeatedly slamming his face onto the floor, and pinning him down, causing multiple facial injuries and breathing difficulties. The boy was not suspected of any crime, was unarmed, and was not under arrest. A federal lawsuit filed by the child’s parents accused Jacquot of excessive force and deleting portions of his body camera footage to conceal the incident. The case was settled in December 2024, with Wyoming authorities agreeing to pay $375,000 to the family. Jacquot was cleared by the previous administration and remains employed by the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, though he no longer serves as a school resource officer.
