On December 13, 2023, Deputy Jerome allegedly shoved inmate Darian Chaney in the back while he was walking to pill call at Vernon Parish Jail. This action reportedly caused severe pain in Chaney’s left knee, which was not properly addressed despite multiple requests for medical attention. Chaney filed a lawsuit on December 11, 2024, alleging excessive force and inadequate medical care, claiming violations of his Fourteenth Amendment rights. The case is being handled in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana under Case ID 2:24-cv-01724.
