In March 2003, Deputy Davis, along with another deputy, entered Lewis Earl Cain’s property without a warrant, searched vehicles, and arrested Cain, resulting in injuries. Cain filed a lawsuit alleging false imprisonment, assault and battery, and civil-rights violations. The Alabama Supreme Court ultimately granted Davis’s petition for a writ of mandamus, directing the circuit court to dismiss the remaining counts of Cain’s complaint.
