Written by In January 2009, Deputy Chris Haynes was involved in an incident where he, along with other officers, allegedly brutalized Calvin Jerrod Wilkerson during an attempt to take him in for a mental health evaluation. Wilkerson filed a civil rights lawsuit against Haynes and other officers, claiming violations of his Fourth Amendment rights, outrage, and assault and battery. The case was settled in 2013, with the city of Williamson and the State Police each agreeing to pay Wilkerson $7,500, totaling a $15,000 settlement. Haynes left the Sheriff’s Department in July 2009, approximately six months after the incident.
