Deputy Dalton T. Martin – McDowell County Sheriff’s Department

In August 2020, Deputy Martin, along with Deputy Jordan A. Horn, was accused of racial profiling and harassment against African-American residents Donnie and Ventriss Hairston. Martin allegedly accused the Hairstons of growing marijuana plants found on a nearby property, detained them without probable cause, and forcibly entered their home. Additionally, Martin arrested their landlord, Jason B. Tartt, without valid grounds. A federal lawsuit was filed against Martin for civil rights violations, including unlawful seizure and retaliation.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

  • Make threats of any kind
  • Share private information such as personal emails, home addresses, or phone numbers

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
