Deputy Bybee faced multiple internal investigations during his tenure. In 2008, he was suspended for 40 hours without pay for discussing an active internal investigation and using his patrol vehicle while off duty. In 2014, he received a 56-hour suspension for untruthfulness and absence without authorized leave. In 2017, Bybee was charged with larceny, exploitation of the elderly, forgery, burglary, battery on a person 65 or older, and attempted murder after allegedly cashing a 79-year-old woman’s checks and attempting to stage her suicide. He was subsequently terminated from the Sheriff’s Office.
