Deputy Gregg Lee – Napa County Sheriff’s Department

On April 24, 2020, Deputy Gregg Lee pursued Brandan Nylander, who was suspected of stealing ammunition. After a vehicle chase, Nylander exited his car holding a shotgun. Lee fired four shots, two of which struck Nylander, resulting in his death. Nylander’s family filed a federal lawsuit against Lee and Napa County, alleging excessive and unreasonable force. The District Attorney declined to press charges against Lee, deeming the use of deadly force reasonable under the circumstances.
